Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 July 2026
This policy explains what information Astrel collects when you use our mobile app, exam portal and college portal, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We’ve written it in plain language and kept it specific to how Astrel actually works.
On this page
1. Who we are
Astrel (“Astrel Education”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a service operated by Suvarnidhi Tehnologies Private Limited, a company incorporated in India. Astrel provides a bilingual (English & Telugu) exam-preparation service for Intermediate / Class 11–12 students and the colleges that teach them. The service includes the Astrel mobile app, the student exam portal, and the college / institution portal. This policy applies to all of them. We are the data controller (or “Data Fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) for the personal data described here.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), display name, and optional profile avatar.
- Learning preferences — your chosen stream (e.g. MPC, BiPC, MEC), target exams (EAPCET, NEET, JEE and others), and preferred language.
- Content you submit — questions and messages you send to the AI tutor, photos you take or upload to scan a problem, and (if you use voice input) short voice recordings.
- Support & feedback — anything you send us by email or through the app.
Information created as you learn
- Activity & performance — questions attempted, answers chosen, correctness, time taken, mastery and accuracy per topic, XP, streaks, and mock/exam results.
- Usage — features used, lessons opened, and interactions needed to run and improve the service.
Information collected automatically
- Device & technical data — device type and operating system, app version, general diagnostics and crash logs, and a push-notification token if you enable notifications.
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal data.
3. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To deliver the core service — lessons, adaptive practice, mock and weekly exams, and progress tracking.
- To power the AI tutor and generate explanations and audio narration (see section 4).
- To personalise practice — e.g. surface weaker concepts and recommend “similar” questions.
- To process subscriptions and payments, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To send service messages (e.g. a welcome email, exam reminders, or notices about your account). We only send these for legitimate service reasons.
- To maintain, debug, secure and improve the service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Our legal bases include performing our contract with you (providing the service), your consent (e.g. for camera, microphone and notifications, which you can withdraw in your device settings), our legitimate interests in operating and improving Astrel, and compliance with law.
4. AI tutor, camera & voice
When you ask the AI tutor a question, the text of your question (and, if you scan a problem, the image) is sent to our AI provider to generate a response. When you use voice input, a short audio clip is sent to a speech-to-text provider to transcribe it. When you play the spoken solution for a question, the question text may be sent to a text-to-speech provider to generate audio, which we then cache so it can be replayed without re-processing.
- Camera is used only when you choose to scan a problem; we do not access it in the background.
- Microphone is used only while you are actively using voice input.
- These providers process this content to return a result to you. We instruct our providers not to use your content to train their models where that option is available to us.
5. Who we share your information with
We share personal data only with service providers (“sub-processors”) that help us run Astrel, and only to the extent needed. These currently include:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, file storage and hosting for your account and learning data |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Powers the AI tutor — processes the questions/images you send it |
| ElevenLabs | Generates spoken-solution audio from question text |
| Sarvam AI | Transcribes voice input to text (speech-to-text) |
| Razorpay | Processes subscription payments (card/UPI details are handled by Razorpay, not stored by us) |
| Brevo | Sends transactional and service emails (e.g. welcome, reminders) |
| Google / Apple | App distribution, in-app purchases, and push-notification delivery |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a business transfer (e.g. a merger), in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data. Some providers may process data outside India; where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards.
6. College & institution students
If your access to Astrel is provided through your college or institution, your account is linked to that institution. Staff of your institution (such as your lecturers or administrators) can see learning information relevant to teaching you — for example your practice activity, mastery by subject, exam results and recent mistakes — within their portal. Your institution acts as a controller for how it uses that information; please also refer to your institution’s own policies. Billing for institution-sponsored plans is handled between the institution and Astrel.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active, so your progress and history remain available to you. If you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, security or fraud-prevention obligations. Aggregated or de-identified data that can no longer identify you may be retained.
8. How we protect your data
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with access controls, including row-level security so that users can only access their own data (and institution staff only their institution’s data). Passwords are stored in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information and review them as the service grows.
9. Your rights & choices
- Access & correction — view and update your profile in the app, or ask us for a copy of your data.
- Deletion — delete your account and data (see section 10).
- Withdraw consent — turn off camera, microphone or notification permissions in your device settings at any time.
- Grievance redressal — contact our Grievance Officer (section 13). Under the DPDP Act you may also raise concerns with the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise any of these, email us at admin@astreleducation.com.
10. Deleting your account & data
You can delete your account directly in the app: go to Settings → Delete account. This removes your account and associated personal learning data, subject to the limited legal retention described in section 7. If you can’t access the app, you can request deletion by emailing admin@astreleducation.com from your registered email address. See our account & data deletion pagefor full steps.
11. Children & minors
Astrel is designed for Intermediate / Class 11–12 students, some of whom are minors. Under India’s DPDP Act, a “child” is anyone under 18. Where required, the personal data of a minor is processed on the basis of consent from a parent or lawful guardian — for institution-provided accounts, this is typically facilitated by the college and the student’s guardian. We do not knowingly use children’s data for targeted advertising or tracking, and we do not knowingly collect data from a child without the required consent. If you believe a minor has provided us personal data without appropriate consent, contact us and we will address it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Astrel after an update means you accept the revised policy.
